On December 19, Professor Kang Dong-jin of Yeungnam University (YU), who serves as the Director of the Center for Engineering Education Innovation, was honored with the Minister of Education Award. The recognition highlights his contributions to advancing the quality of engineering education through accreditation and innovation efforts, as well as his pivotal role in promoting globally recognized systems in engineering education.
Professor KANG has been instrumental in introducing and expanding competency-based engineering education performance systems. Notably, he developed a framework for issuing digital competency badges, which has been implemented since 2024 in Korea Industrial Technology Promotion Agency (KIAT) bootcamp training programs, particularly in the semiconductor sector.
Furthermore, Professor KANG has significantly contributed to establishing and standardizing Korea’s engineering education accreditation system. Over 15 years, starting as the evaluation director for Korea Aerospace University in 2010 and culminating with his role at Sungkyunkwan University in 2024, he has conducted evaluation tasks for 15 universities nationwide, solidifying his legacy as a pioneer in this field.
